Street style of slip dress

Satin slip dresses and skirts have made a serious comeback and this is how you can wear them now…

It's the time of the year that our heads are saying reach for the thermals, but our hearts are saying easy breezy cotton dresses and sandals. So, our solution? Invest in pieces that'll see you through both seasons.

Like dangly belly button rings and choker necklaces, the slip dress was a Nineties favourite. But it's one that's naturally getting welcomed back with open arms – unlike the former. Loved by the likes of Nineties icons Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell and associated with renowned designers such as Calvin Klein, slips have always been a fashion piece to take note of.

Now, designers such as Raey and Rixo are making them hero items in their latest collections, Topshop have seen a spark in sales, and shopping app Liketoknow.it has seen a huge 66% increase in searches for slip dress. It's safe to say, they're back.

Their satin sister — the midi slip or bias skirt — is also a firm favourite of late. Topshop dropped a rust and chocolate version online at the beginning of autumn, and our insiders told us they sold out within three hours. They've since been restocked, along with 11 other colours and prints and Topshop has just let us in to another little secret; there's even more new hues launching throughout the next few months. We predict they'll sell out just as quick.

Continue to shop our 10 favourite slip dresses and skirts and find out how to style them all year round.

The slip dress

Marisa is right in saying that it's all about layering the sleek separate for winter. Adding a roll neck, blazer and knee high boots underneath looks seriously chic for winter.

Come spring, you can wear it with chunky boots and nothing else for a slightly grungy edge that still firmly channels the Nineties vibe. All hail the slip dress, the most versatile piece you'll add to your wardrobe (if you haven't already).

Trust us, once it gets warmer, you'll be teaming them with your linen tops and lace-up sandals.
